The ground-breaking ceremonies, under the leadership of Dr. J. E. Danieley, Elon College president got underway with an al fresco dinner on the site of the new women’s dormitory, fol lowed thirty minutes lat er by the actual breaking of ground on the site of the new living-dining area and the men’s dormitory. A modern note to the ground-breaking was the fact that the first dirt was turned by a bulldozer rather than the tradition al gilded shovel, but the official ribbon cutting was by Dale Morrison, pres ident of the Elon College Student Government As sociation. Immediately following the litany and benediction, there was a huge pep rally, prelimi nary to the Homecoming football game with West ern Carolina. The new living-dining structure will be built north of the Alumni Me morial Gymnasium and the athletic fields and will be the first residential structure to be built on Elon’s new north campus outside the brick walls that surround the other residence and admini strative buildings.
